Work with your body, not against it.

Chronic illness and stress often feed each other. So we start by helping your nervous system settle, then make room for the grief, frustration, and hope that come along with it.

  1. Step 1

Ease the stress and symptom loop

Somatic tools help you notice how stress shows up in your body and find small ways to calm it, gently and always within your limits.

  2. Step 2

    Untangle the guilt and shame

CBT and Cognitive Processing Therapy help you question beliefs like "I'm a burden" or "I should be able to push through this."

  3. Step 3

Build a life that fits the body you have

Relational work on boundaries, asking for help, and redefining what a good life looks like now, so it feels like yours again.

Care from someone who gets it

Therapy works best when it feels like a real relationship, and when your therapist understands chronic illness firsthand. Here's what you can count on.

At your pace

Flare days, foggy days, and good days all look different. Sessions flex with your energy, and slowing down is always okay.

You're the expert

You know your body better than anyone. Your therapist won't question your symptoms or tell you to just think positive.

Gently challenging

Support doesn't mean just nodding along. When you're ready, your therapist will kindly nudge you toward what you want your life to hold.

No surprises

You'll know what each session is for and what's coming next, so therapy is one less thing to manage.

Always welcome back

Health can change fast. If you need to step away for a while, the door stays open.

A few things your body would like you to know

Rest isn't a reward. It's a need.You don't have to earn it first.
Needing help doesn't make you a burden. It makes you human.
You're so much more than a diagnosis.Every body, every story, every version of you.

Why Empower Wellness is private pay

Paying out of pocket is a real investment. Here's what it gets you, and how superbills can help you get some of it back.

  • A diagnosis is required just to start, and it becomes part of your insurance record.
  • Your plan can limit how many sessions you get or which approaches are covered.
  • Treatment has to keep proving it's "medically necessary."
  • You're limited to therapists in your plan's network.
  • You and your therapist decide what therapy looks like, together.
  • Nothing is shared with an insurer unless you choose to submit a superbill.
  • Session frequency fits your life and your nervous system, not a policy.
  • You get specialized trauma care, whether or not we're in your network.
3 questions to ask your insurance
  1. Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
  2. Have I met my out-of-network deductible this year?
  3. What percentage do you reimburse for CPT code 90837?

Superbills include a diagnosis code, which insurers need for reimbursement. Reimbursement isn't guaranteed and depends on your plan.

Getting started is simpler than you think.

Questions people often ask

Still wondering about something? Ask it on the form and our team will answer it personally.

Ask your question
Do you work with my specific condition?

Empower Wellness works with adults living with many kinds of chronic illness, including conditions that are invisible, hard to diagnose, or still undiagnosed. You don't need a confirmed diagnosis to start.

Can therapy help if my illness is physical?

Therapy doesn't replace medical care, but it can help with the stress, grief, anxiety, and low mood that often come with chronic illness. Stress can also affect how symptoms feel day to day.

Does my therapist understand chronic illness?

Yes. Empower Wellness was founded by a therapist who lives with a chronic illness, so you won't have to explain the basics or prove what you're going through.

What if I'm having a flare on a session day?

Because sessions are online, you can join from bed or the couch. On your free call, you can ask how scheduling works if you ever need to move a session.

Can I work on medical trauma here?

Yes. Being dismissed, misdiagnosed, or going through frightening procedures can leave a lasting mark. Trauma-informed care is part of how we work.

Does online therapy work as well as in person?

For many people, yes. Being in your own space can make it easier to relax and open up, especially on low-energy days. On your free call, you can talk through whether online therapy feels right for you.

Who do you work with?

Adults 18 and older who live in Ohio, in individual therapy. Empower Wellness has a special focus on people living with chronic illness, the LGBTQ+ community, and people working through trauma, anxiety, and depression.

Do you take insurance?

Empower Wellness is private pay and provides superbills, which you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Check with your plan about your benefits.
